Austria Packaging Regulations

EU FIC Regulation 1169/2011 applies directly; all food labels must be in German. Cosmetics are regulated under EU Regulation 1223/2009 as implemented nationally by the Kosmetikverordnung, enforced jointly by the Bundesamt für Sicherheit im Gesundheitswesen (BASG) and the Austrian Agency for Health and Food Safety (AGES). BASG also licenses medicines and medical devices, covering the Tyrol-based Kundl manufacturing complex, part of Novartis until Novartis spun off its generics and biosimilars division as the independent company Sandoz in October 2023, a distinction worth getting right since 'Novartis' is no longer the correct company reference for Kundl-produced generics and antibiotics packaging. Wine labels must comply with EU wine CMO Regulation 1308/2013 and, for the 15 DAC-designated regions, with Austrian Wine Marketing Board (ÖWM) rules governing grape variety, yield and the Gebietswein/Ortswein/Riedenwein tier declared on the label.
