Labeling requirements in New Zealand

New Zealand Food Safety, part of the Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI), administers food rules, most of them shared with Australia through FSANZ. Labels must be in English.

Food: the joint Food Standards Code covers ingredients, allergens, date marking and the Nutrition Information Panel.
Origin: the Consumer Information Standards (Origin of Food) Regulations 2021 cover fresh and frozen fruit, vegetables, meat and fish.
Supplements: the Dietary Supplements Regulations 1985 still set the label statements. A new natural health products system entered consultation in October 2026.
Cosmetics: the EPA's Cosmetic Products Group Standard requires an ingredient list and any required warnings.
CBD: a prescription medicine under Medsafe rules, so it isn't a general retail category.
