Labeling requirements in Ireland
The Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) oversees food law, with EU Regulation 1169/2011 (EU FIC) as the core labelling rule. English is accepted, and Irish may be used alongside it.
- Food: EU FIC sets the mandatory particulars, 1.2 mm minimum x-height, emphasised allergens and the nutrition declaration.
- Supplements: Directive 2002/46/EC labelling, with notification to the FSAI before first sale.
- Claims: nutrition and health claims must comply with Regulation 1924/2006 and appear on the authorised EU list.
- Cosmetics: Regulation 1223/2009, with an EU Responsible Person and CPNP notification, supervised in Ireland by the HPRA.
- CBD: foods and supplements are treated as novel foods and need EU authorisation.
