Labeling requirements in Pakistan
Food labelling in Pakistan is handled largely at provincial level, with the Punjab Food Authority (PFA) running the most developed label approval system. The Pakistan Standards and Quality Control Authority (PSQCA) sets national standards.
- Food: prepackaged labels cover the product name, ingredients, nutrition information, allergens and date marking under the Pakistan food labelling standard.
- Punjab: the Punjab Pure Food Regulations 2018 apply, and approved products display the PFA logo after label approval.
- PSQCA: products under mandatory standards carry the Pakistan Standard mark, with a marking fee.
- Supplements: health and nutraceutical products fall under the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP), so check enlistment and label rules before print.
- Cosmetics: national cosmetic rules are developing, so confirm current requirements with your adviser.
- Language: confirm Urdu and English needs with your food authority, especially for retail sale.
