Packaging & Label Design for Brands in Venezuela
Venezuela (population approximately 29 million, capital Caracas) holds the world's largest proven crude oil reserves (approximately 304 billion barrels, surpassing Saudi Arabia since the Orinoco Belt heavy oil certification in 2011), yet has experienced one of the worst economic collapses in modern history: hyperinflation, GDP contraction of over 70% between 2013–2021, mass emigration of approximately 7–8 million Venezuelans (the largest displacement crisis in Latin American history), and severe consumer goods shortages. President Nicolás Maduro has governed since the death of Hugo Chávez in 2013; opposition leader Edmundo González won the July 2024 presidential election by widely recognised international accounts, but Maduro claimed victory and remains in power. Despite this, Venezuela retains internationally recognised export specialties: Venezuelan Criollo cacao (particularly from the Sur del Lago region and the Chuao village cooperative on the Caribbean coast) is ICCO-certified Fine Flavour Cacao and commands the highest premium prices globally among craft chocolate makers. Ron Santa Teresa, Pampero, and Diplomático rums are internationally distributed premium Venezuelan spirits.
Venezuela Packaging Regulations
SENCAMER (Servicio Autónomo Nacional de Normalización, Calidad, Metrología y Reglamentos Técnicos) governs product standards; Spanish-language labels are mandatory. INIA (Instituto Nacional de Investigaciones Agrícolas) and FUNDE CACAO certify cacao quality and origin; Venezuelan Criollo and Trinitario cacao exported as 'Fine Flavour' carry ICCO country-of-origin fine flavour designation. US OFAC sanctions (OFAC Venezuela-related designations) and EU Council Decision 2017/2074 sanctions (targeting named officials and prohibiting certain financial dealings with the Venezuelan state) must be carefully navigated for any financial transactions with Venezuelan counterparties, sanctions scope evolves with political developments and should be verified with current OFAC/EU guidance. Rum exports to the EU require compliance with EU Spirit Drinks Regulation (EU) 2019/787.
Key Industries in Venezuela
