Packaging & Label Design for Brands in Kazakhstan
Kazakhstan's Almaty and Astana (Nur-Sultan) markets operate under the EAEU Technical Regulations framework, with Russian-language labels mandatory across the five-member bloc (Kazakhstan, Russia, Belarus, Armenia, Kyrgyzstan). Most products imported into Kazakhstan must carry labels in both Kazakh and Russian, including product name, manufacturer, country of origin, production date, shelf life, storage conditions, and nutritional data. Kazakhstan is the world's leading uranium exporter (41% of global supply in 2023) and a significant wheat exporter, with the Tengizchevroil and Kashagan oil projects placing it among the world's top 15 oil producers. Pharmaceutical traceability has advanced rapidly: mandatory drug serialization using GS1 DataMatrix codes has been in phased rollout since 2022, with the Ministry of Health targeting full supply-chain traceability across all pharmaceutical products.
Kazakhstan Packaging Regulations
EAEU Technical Regulation TR CU 022/2011 'Food products in terms of their labelling' governs food labelling across all five EAEU member states; labels must be in Russian (Kazakh may additionally appear but Russian is mandatory). The EAC (Eurasian Conformity) mark must appear on all regulated products before distribution within the EAEU. Pharmaceutical packaging and registration is regulated by the Ministry of Healthcare of the Republic of Kazakhstan (MZKRK), with drug serialization using GS1 DataMatrix barcodes now mandatory under the national traceability system. The State Revenue Committee (KGD) under the Ministry of Finance handles customs and import conformity assessment. KAZMEMST (Kazakhstan Institute for Standardization and Certification) develops national ST RK standards, which may supplement EAEU TR requirements for specific product categories.
