Packaging & Label Design for Brands in Israel
Israel's high-tech and defence-technology exports headline an all-time-record $165 billion export year in 2025, with services exports (fintech, cybersecurity, software) crossing $92 billion for the first time, 56% of total exports. Defence exports alone hit a record $19.2 billion in 2025, up 30% on 2024, concentrated among Israel Aerospace Industries, Rafael, and Elbit Systems. Pharmaceutical manufacturing remains anchored by Teva Pharmaceutical Industries, still the world's largest generic-medicines producer by volume, with $16.5 billion in 2024 revenue. Diamonds remain a significant B2B export category: the Ramat Gan-based Israel Diamond Exchange, the world's largest diamond trading floor, anchors roughly $10 billion a year in trade. Tel Aviv- and Jerusalem-facing consumer brands must navigate one of the world's most tightly regulated kosher-certification landscapes, which tightened further in July 2024 when the Knesset restored the Chief Rabbinate's exclusive legal monopoly over kosher certification, reversing a 2021 reform that had let private Orthodox bodies issue independently recognised certificates.
Israel Packaging Regulations
The Food Act 1996 together with SI 1145 (the Standards Institution of Israel's core food-labelling standard) sets mandatory label content, nutrition table, allergens, and kosher status where applicable, and Hebrew is required on all labels. Kosher certification for domestic retail is, as of a July 2024 Knesset law, once again the exclusive legal preserve of the Chief Rabbinate; export-oriented products bound for the US typically carry separately issued US-recognised marks (OU, OK, Star-K, Kof-K). Pharmaceutical products are registered with the Ministry of Health's Pharmaceutical Division (the national Drug Registry), a distinct process from AMAR, the Ministry of Health's Medical Device Division, which registers medical devices based on prior approval in a reference market. Country-of-origin labelling for goods from Israeli settlements in the West Bank remains a live EU/UK trade-policy question following the International Court of Justice's July 2024 advisory opinion, which export documentation should be built to accommodate on short notice.
